Gripknife Care

PLEASE TAKE EXCELLENT CARE OF YOUR GRIPKNIFE IF YOU WANT GRIPKNIFE TO TAKE CARE OF YOU. GET TO KNOW YOUR GRIPKNIFE, AS ITS FUNCTIONALITY IS SIMILAR TO NOTHING. KEEP IT SHARP AND CLEAN!

ALWAYS KEEP YOUR GRIPKNIFE BLADE SHARP

In your hour of need, you’ll want it very sharp.

ALWAYS WIPE DOWN THE BLADE WITH A LINT-FREE CLOTH AFTER SHARPENING

This removes any debris and metal shavings prior to collapsing the blade within the Grip Handle AND prior to inserting the blade into the Mounting Sheath—as this debris can stick to the Magnetic-Assist within the Mounting Sheath, as well as get dragged down into the inside of your Gripknife—both leading to potential gouges in coated surfaces (opening them up to the elements) and potential for reliability and safety issues.

ALWAYS KEEP THE LOCKING AREAS OF YOUR GRIPKNIFE AND MOUNTING SHEATH CLEAN

The accumulation of dirt, meat, hair, or debris on or inside the Gripknife and/or Mounting Sheath could prevent the locking mechanisms from securing your Gripknife onto the Mounting Sheath, thus creating a potential safety hazard. To clean these areas we recommend using compressed air to blow out any lose dirt and debris, but these areas can also be cleaned with hot soapy water and a lint free rag. If you’re out in the elements and your Gripknife has become filled with sand or soil to the point of being problematic, pour some water in a clean bucket or helmet and swish Gripknife around in the clean water and repeat process until you no longer see debris on the locking mechanisms or coming out of Gripknife. Ensure that the blade freely retracts into the Grip Handle, and that it securely locks back onto the mount prior to letting go of the Grip Handle. Test it a few times to ensure reliability. We do not recommend this, but it should get you through until you can properly clean.

ALWAYS KEEP DEBRIS OUT OF YOUR GRIPKNIFE AND MOUNTING SHEATH

Yes Gripknife was built to function in dirty and even sandy environments, but everything has its limits; no out-the-front knife, or firearm, can be 100% safe and free of failures when dirt and debris are at extreme levels. This can prevent Gripknife from mounting and or deploying properly, and is potential for a safety hazard. This can also lead to potential gouges in Gripknife’s coated surfaces, essentially punching a hole in your protective armor and that can also be problematic for Gripknife’s self-lubricating operation.

NEVER POUR OR SPRAY OIL OR LUBRICANTS INTO YOUR GRIPKNIFE AND MOUNTING SHEATH

This can cause dirt, dust, and debris to build up inside the knife that can have a negative effect on Gripknife’s functionality, reliability, and safety. Because Gripknife has been coated to provide corrosion resistance and lubricated surfaces, getting the debris off of Gripknife is all that is needed to properly function. We recommend carefully and safely washing with soapy water, and drying the blade with a lint free cloth. A product such as marine Tuf-Cloth™ works well to not only wipe down the blade for cleaning but, also adds an invisible coating for added corrosion protection without leaving any oily film which may attract dirt and debris. Most of our blade steels have a very high carbon content which enables them to hold a superior cutting edge.

NEVER ATTEMPT TO USE YOUR GRIPKNIFE AS A SCREWDRIVER, PRY-BAR, CHISEL, OR PUNCH

Let us do the cinder block busting, if you do, we will not replace that Gripknife or the cinderblock(s). We do hold exceptions for life or death situations, with legal documentation, at Gripknife’s discretion.

NEVER THROW GRIPKNIFE.

Unless it’s for a damn good reason, at our discretion, we will not fix or replace your Gripknife if you threw it. It is not designed to be a throwing knife.

NEVER SHARPEN GRIPKNIFE ON A POWER GRINDING WHEEL

This is never a good idea for the knife or the user. It burns the temper of the blade, and can be very unsafe.

NEVER USE FOR ANY PURPOSE OTHER THAN CUTTING

To use Gripknife for any other purpose other than cutting is considered abuse on your Gripknife and that will not be covered under the Gripknife Warranty, guaranteed. Again, exceptions do apply for those in life or death situations, with legal documentation and at our discretion, and in which case, Gripknife has a variety of defensive capabilities.

DISASSEMBLE AT YOUR OWN RISK

If you choose to disassemble your Gripknife to clean, you may do so at your own risk, possibly voiding your warranty at the discretion of our service department. At this time we will not clean or re-assemble your Gripknife for you, and if you lose any parts, or re-assemble incorrectly, or damage your Gripknife, we will not be held responsible or accountable for replacing parts, any mechanical problems, damages, or personal injuries/deaths that may occur from this. We will offer replacements parts for sale at our website Gripknife.com.
